TWILIGHT IN SUMMER
Dad - Stan Ski - asked me what music I like
(apart from หมอลำ (Morlam) – he said)

I told him, and he asked me why
So I told him about last night,
And he turned my story into this:

IT AIN’T HALF HOT MUM
In thirty six point four degrees of sweat
We sit out on the porch to watch the sky
It’s evening time in Isan – not dark yet
The flying ants, mosquitoes – things that fly
Are losing wings, or biting legs and arms
Please pass that cream mum – if you don’t I’ll die
Some neighbours coming home late from their farms
Been planting rice – backs aching to the bone
But me – I’m lost in music… music calms
An MP3 tune on Dad’s mobile phone
A favourite of mine – I like the sound
Stone Roses singing ‘like an elephant stone’
I listen as I watch the sunset glow
The longest day is over now, I know

Hi Changnoi, brilliant post! I like the way you got your Dad to write it up.
ReplyDeleteHope to see you soon, Uncle Andy
Hi Lung Andy; I'm 8 I'm, no poet - only an artist :)
ReplyDeletegreat picture.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your story and both songs. The traditional one makes me think of zydeco style a little bit, bluegrass, too.
Hi Barbara; I only wrote the title, and threw in the ideas.
ReplyDeleteYoung Poet, you just did an incredible job describing a vivid scene using almost all of the senses, so it's like we're there. Remember the netting at night. Great writing!
ReplyDeleteHi J.D Mackenzie; I just told Dad what and why, and he put it into verse for me.
ReplyDeleteYou and your dad sure make a great team! Wonderful job little poet, little artist.
ReplyDelete- Dina
P.S. Love the hair!
Changnoi, Writing a title and throwing in ideas with a little bit of love and feeling...poof! Poetry. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your music, too!
Hi Dina; The hair is back to normal now.
ReplyDeleteHi Brenda W; Next time I have to do it all myself.
And I'm sure you'll make a splendid job of it. This is a very special poem - congratulations to the two of you.
ReplyDeleteViV
Thanks Vivienne; But it may be a while before I try...
ReplyDeleteBeing lost in music is a much better way to spend the longest day then planting rice. You and your dad make a great team, and I'm a fan of the Stone Roses.
ReplyDeleteHi Francis; I agree, and Dad tells me he lived less than a mile from where Ian Brown and John Squire used to live.
